Congratulations to Lyndsey who has successfully quit smoking and put her health first after losing two loved ones. It's never easy quitting, but like Lyndsey says you are reducing your chances of developing the same illnesses as family members.

What was your main reason for accessing the service?

To improve my health, and as I have lost both my mum and dad from COPD and lung cancer.

Did you believe you could achieve 4 weeks Smokefree?

I really wanted to make it happen, but I thought it would be harder than it actually was.

Have you used stop smoking medication to help you quit?

Yes, I used patches and an inhalator. I found it helpful, they helped with the cravings and keeping me comfortable.

Apart from medication, what else helped you to quit and stay smokefree?

I have been getting out of the house and walking more, not staying in as much. Also seeing the money I have saved, it's been a real eye opener and kept me going. It's unreal.

Did you visit the Yorkshire Smokefree Webpage?

Yes, I looked at the lung recovery section.

Has your health improved since you quit and if so, in what ways?

I can now sleep a lot better, the cravings in the night are no longer there. I used to get up in the middle of the night for a cig. I can feel that my health has improved overall.

Other than health, have you achieved anything since quitting that you couldn't do whilst smoking?

Walking a lot more now and getting out of the house.

What have you found helpful about accessing the service via the telephone?

Telephone support has been great. I have had no problems at all. The telephone appointments have always been on time, I have no missed calls. It's so easy and simple. I got on brilliant with Sarah my advisor, she was friendly and nice and would go the extra mile. I can call her whenever I need to.

If you have a history of COPD or cancer in your family like me, take the leap now and stop smoking. It's easier than you think, and you are reducing your chances of developing the same illness.
