"The moment I knew enough was enough came the week before I finally quit smoking.

I was in Blackpool for the day with my family, and it felt like I had to cling to every lamppost just to make it along the seafront, never mind the promenade.

I remember reaching the wall near Coral Island and realizing I couldn’t go any further! I was completely spent, walking even a few more steps, let alone making it back to the car, it felt impossible.

My daughter saw how much I was struggling and told me to wait here while they went to get the car. When I got home, I knew it was time to stop smoking, but this time, I had to fully commit to the quit.

The first two weeks were tough as I felt restless, irritable, and constantly craving a cigarette.

I was absolutely knackered from the lack of sleep. I was so used to being up in the middle of the night with a coffee and a cigarette that everything felt strange without it. Even though I was exhausted, I just couldn’t settle into sleep.

I’ve realised that the longer I stay smokefree, the better I feel. I’m even able to be around smokers now, which was impossible for me at first. My chest feels clearer, I can walk further, I have more energy and, if I’m honest, I feel happier too!

I don’t want to count my chickens just yet, but I think I’ve done really well and yes, I’m proud of myself for quitting."
