Margaret has proven that it is never too late to quit smoking by breaking the habit at 75 years old! We are extremely proud of her efforts and congratulate her on her status as a non-smoker.
After smoking throughout the majority of her life, Maragret made the decision to go smoke free for the sake of her health. She was hospitalised with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a damaging illness that is more likely to occur in those that have been exposed to tobacco smoke for a long period of time.
The diagnosis had a big impact on Margaret. She was referred to Yorkshire Smokefree by her GP in January 2014 and since then has whole-heartedly put herself into her quit journey, taking advantage of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to help overcome her cravings.
For months Margaret has been regularly attending local stop smoking group sessions held by the Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale team to give her that extra support in quitting for good.
Margret tells us,
“Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale were so helpful, their manner was so courteous. Lovely bunch of people and no pressure”
Looking back at when she was first diagnosed with COPD, Margaret is incredibly pleased with the uplift in her health since quitting smoking and her success in managing to stop!
The team at Calderdale are pleased to announce that the 75 year old is now celebrating being 1 year smoke-free – fantastic work, Margret!
