Katie quits for the health of her baby
When Katie found out she was pregnant, she wanted to stop smoking for the health of her baby. After trying to quit on her own and finding it difficult, she decided to contact our team for the extra support and encouragement she needed.
Our one to one meetings, phone support and help with choosing the right product to help Katie quit are just some of the ways our Calderdale team have lent their support.
Katie told us:
“Just someone being there to have a friendly chat was exactly what I needed. The staff were very helpful and supportive – it’s like they couldn’t do enough to help me.”
Breaking the routine was always going to be hard, but Katie showed determination and will soon be reaching her one year smokefree anniversary.
“I have a happy and healthy baby and I’ve saved a lot of money which means I can take more time off work to spend with my baby.”
Katie also told us that she feels much happier too and finds she doesn’t feel breathlessness when doing simple tasks anymore. And, as well as the health benefits quitting has had, she also loves coming home to a clean house now that no longer smells of smoke.
“Lucy at Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale has been fantastic and so helpful. She even phoned up after I had my baby to see if we were OK, which was a very thoughtful touch.”
We asked Katie for her top tips on becoming smokefree. She said for her, keeping busy was a main priority - if she didn’t have time to smoke then she wouldn’t be able to. Taking up needlework was a great distraction too, it meant that her hands still had something to do!
We’re so proud of Katie and would like to congratulate her on being smokefree! We wish her and her family all the best.
